Tidewater Arts Outreach presents the fifth annual Sea Level Singer/Songwriter Festival—a homegrown Norfolk, Virginia music festival that takes place in restaurants and theaters in and around Ghent. Original, live music will be in abundance throughout the weekend of April 5–7, 2012, in the form of street buskers, an outdoor music stage, afternoon concerts in area eateries, and several flagship events. Kicking off the festival is an evening of great music at the Naro Cinema, featuring Shelby Lynne. Opening for Shelby is local blues singer and fingerstyle guitarist Seth Stainback. About the Artists: Shelby Lynne is a genre-defying American singer/ songwriter with 13 albums to her credit. With the critical success and recognition of her 1999 album I Am Shelby Lynne, she was awarded the Best New Artist Grammy Award in 2000. Her high-charting 2008 album Just a Little Lovin’ paid tribute to Dusty Springfield and established Lynne’s talents as a song interpreter as well as a writer. She has since started her own independent record label, Everso Records, and has released three albums: Tears, Lies and Alibis, Merry Christmas and Revelation Road. Her appearance at the Sea Level Singer/Songwriter Festival is part of her first-ever international solo acoustic tour that will mirror the intimacy of her latest release, Revelation Road, which has appeared on numerous top 10 lists of 2011. MOJO, Uncut and AmericanSongwriter.com each awarded Revelation Road four stars. Additional information is available at ShelbyLynne.com.
Seth Stainback is a gifted singer/songwriter who paints vivid pictures of an old-soul world he must have known in a past life. His decidedly Southern compositions combine with his soulful voice, speaking the grit of Texas and the troubled heart of Carolina, the places of his youth. Seth carries a powerful charisma in his live performances, while his honesty and authenticity send gooseflesh through the house. He sings in the first person of being a fugitive, a sinner, or a repentant, heartbroken heartbreaker with a glint of murder on his mind. A finalist in the 2010 Sea Level Emerging Artist contest, his debut record will be released this coming April. Additional information is available at SethStainback.com.
Tickets are available at the Naro!
